Ken Waight

Principal

Ken sensei began his studies with Karate in 1963 with Harada sensei and became his head disciple, touring with him throughout the UK and Europe. He then went to Japan and met Master Egami Shigeru, head of Shotokai Karate and became a live-in disciple of Master Aoki. He introduced Shintaido to Europe and was Head Instructor in the UK and served on the International Technical Board for many years. Ken sensei began studying Zen in 1981 with Genpo Merzel Roshi and has continued to practice Zen at international meetings and teach it through the Kitaido system. He has also studied Dance Movement Therapy with Marcia Leventhal at the first Roehampton University course offered in 1988.

Fiona Duff

Instructor

Fiona sensei was introduced to Kitaido through her shiatsu studies in 1987, and soon after became a teacher of both Kitaido and shiatsu. Fiona sensei is a bohjustu shodan, and practices shiatsu and acupuncture. She teaches regularly at the weekly London class.

James Smith

Instructor

James sensei began his movement practice in the 1984 with Ken, first with Shintaido and then Kitaido. He has studied in Japan and became an instructor in 1999. James sensei is a bohjutsu shodan, and regularly teaches at the weekly London class. He is currently taking a degree in Japanese at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Debra Duffy

Assistant Instructor

Debra discovered Kitaido as a shiatsu student in 1994, and has organised many international retreats. She teaches a weekly class in Hove, Brighton.

Gary Philippo

Assistant Instructor

Gary started practicing Kitaido in 2002 alongside his shiatsu studies. In 2005 he became an assistant instructor and regularly teaches at the weekly London class. He is a shiatsu practitioner.

Yasmin Fulder

Assistant Instructor

Yasmin has been practicing Kitaido since 2001, both in Israel and the UK. In 2005 she became an assistant instructor and regularly teaches at the weekly London class. She is a counselling psychologist and is engaged in a doctorate at City University.
